Blue Room

Blue Room

Decorating Tips

  • An inexpensive way to give a canopy look without the heavy feel of a canopy bed. Often a child's room is too small to carry off a large canopy bed---but your kids love the look. The solution: rods are afixed to the ceiling and to both sides of the walls. Sheer white fabric is draped through the rods and puddled on the floor.
  • Paint your walls and use white as the unifying color. Your room will pull together quickly.

Decorating Tips

  • Quick trick using fabric. Here different cotton print fabrics are overlayed on a square piece of wood covered in a thin layer of batting. Pull the fabric tightly and staple. Contrasting ribbon is criss crossed and a button has been attached.
  • This great piece of wall art does not match the bed covering but picks up the pastel colors of the bedding. Three small pillows, however, were made that carry those colors over to the bed

Cat in the Hat Room

Decorating Tips

  • This nursery is bright and crisp in colors of red, white and black---only two focal walls are striped.
  • An artist painted the Cat which is truly the highlight of the room.
  • If you can't find an artist consider our Cat in the Hat art. On the opposite side of the room this art is used.
  • The great thing about this theme---it will grow with your child from nursery to 2nd grade---and that's what you want longevity.

Lime Room

Lime Room

Decorating Tips

  • We love the bold use of color with the 3 electric patterned fabrics---lime green, black and turquoise.
  • Black shutters were attached to the standing mirror. Visually it gives a more dramatic impact to the corner.
  • A rod was attached over the bed---2 glass chimes were added---with a picture anchoring the middle.
  • A clever use of frames over the dresser in lieu in a mirror. These mirrors have no backing!!! It is the frame with glass only. Best of all the picture is wrapping paper. The art seems to float on the wall.
  • A small wooden sign---AWESOME---gives the window seat a punch.

Frame With Ribbon

  • Consider using our pink or shabby chic white scalloped frames and weave a dramatic ribbon for a similar effect.
  • Find our frames on the Chef page. Available in shabby chic white and pink.

Decorating Tips

  • Take a ribbon and weave it through a frame. The ribbon makes the frame pop and it becomes much more significant on the wall.

Princess Room
Ribbons and Bows

Decorating Tips

  • Buy a ready made comforter and buy fabric in coordinating prints. A pastel plaid and solid pink were chosen for this room. Get a custom look for a fraction of the cost.
  • This room is over the top. Three different patterned wall papers, coordinating pictures and signs, and a bed filled with princess pillows.
  • Consider our Fairy Tales Do Come True Signs on the Princess page.

Decorating Tips

  • By adding a ribbon and bow (with center flower), the picture becomes visually more important.
  • Coordinating quilt used as a table topper.
  • You can't quite tell but a sconce has been added to either side of the bed. To hide the unsightly cords, coordinating fabric and ribbon have been tied around the cord. A great trick when a room has not been pre-wired.
  • When you put accessories on a table top, remember the rule of 3's or 5's. Here they used a photo frame, greenery, and a small glass clock.

Bright Flower Room

Bright Flower Room

Decorating Tips

  • It's all about bold flowers in this room from the bedding to the drapery panels
  • A wall shelf spans above the bed with bright colored plates that are right in step with this bold room.
  • The drapery panels couldn't be cuter as a wire embellishment was sewn in for extra flower detail. That same wire flower embellishment was used on the dresser.
  • Once again, a great example of an inexpensive frame (with frame and glass only) and a peice of coordinating wrapping paper---as the featured print. Can't find a picture---think wrapping paper.

Dance

Garden Trellis Room

Decorating Tips

  • Use what you have for your dance room. Here a tutu and hair scrunchie and ballet shoes were used in a shadow box.

Decorating Tips

  • A garden trellis from the home store was used and decorated with a lilac floral vine.

Yellow Princess

Decorating Tips

  • Wallpaper is making a comeback. The upper 2/3 of the wall is wallpaper and the bottom is in a matching yellow---white bead board trim separates the two.
  • The trick is to create visual impact. Flower wall pegs are used with princess boas, necklaces, hats, and veils. These same pegs can be found on our pegs page.

Tropical Room

Tropical Room

Decorating Tips

  • Sometimes using wall paper on two walls is a great way to make a room pop.
  • A solid color coverlet is used rather than the tropical pattern---it makes the room less busy. The pattern is picked up in the dust ruffle and pillows.
  • Two garden flamingos were mounted on a board and the board was painted white.
  • Inexpensive stuffed animals complete the look.

  • These were fastened to the wall with tiny nails.
  • Super easy! Choose one color of dots or use many colors.

Decorating Tips

  • More circles, this time using varying sizes.
  • Diamond squares inside the circles were made of felt and glued in the center.
  • Use a fine point paint brush to connect a vertical line between the circles. It appears that the circles are floating from the ceiling.
  • Your color may not be brown---but consider the colors of your room.
  • This provides a great graphic element to your room.

  • A starfish and shell garland are used on the easel and a beach sign sits beneath---each one seals the deal and let's you know that you are in a beach room!

Decorating Tips

  • Here an oversized mirror was painted white and took a mirror from very ornate to shabby chic. Spray paint is your friend and will take a mismatched item to perfect.
  • Behind the mirror-it must be securely fastened so it will not tip.

Decorating Tips

  • A great desk area, with a fabric skirt, hides away even more treasures.
  • Simple black wall drapes with black and turquoise ribbon were tied to hooks that act as a drapery holder.

Girls Room

Decorating Tips

  • How simple!
  • The room is painted so you see the striking color contrast. You don't want white walls and white rods.
  • These simple and inexpensive rods were painted white to match the other accessories in the room. Small bracelets, watches and key chains were added
  • The rods are about 18" and the spacing is about 6". Visually you have filled up wall space with very personal treasures.

In the Tree Top Nursery

Decorating Tips

  • A fanciful nursery filled with wonderful detail.
  • The hanging bassinette seemily hangs from the branches but is actually securely grounded and sits on the floor.
  • Black and white photos are the way to go above this shabby chic shelf. The sparkled letters spelling Lizzie's name were wonderful.

  • More sparkle with the word DREAM dancing in front of a mirror angeled in the corner. A hole punch as been used on each of the letters to feed the thin rope through----with a satin bow completing the look.
  • Lastly, a frame (with no glass on backing) is attached to the wall. The photo is tacked directly to the wall. The final touch is a matching bow which is been glued to the frame.

Purple and Turquoise Room
Purple and Turquoise Room

Decorating Tips

  • The custom linens are wonderful but the 3 petite wreaths are a clever and inexpensive trick---each hanging from a coordinating ribbon.

Decorating Tips

  • Of course we love the window treatment but the 2 frames caught our eye. Mirrors were added to the picture frames and wrapping paper---yes wrapping paper---becomes the art. Spray adhesive was used to adhere the picture to the mirror.

Vintage Window Frames

  • Old photos were added and an old newspaper was scalloped---the scalloped newspaper acts as the matting.
